Behind the Scenes: Meet the Farmers Powering Angata Sugar Mills
Our 3,000+ outgrower farmers are the backbone of our entire operation. These dedicated men and women cultivate sugarcane across thousands of acres in Transmara, providing the raw material that powers our mill.
Meet John Kiptoo, a third-generation farmer from Kilgoris who has converted 15 acres of his land to sugarcane cultivation. "Before Angata Sugar Mills came, we were growing maize and struggling with unpredictable prices," he says. "Now I have a guaranteed buyer, technical support, and my income has tripled."
Or consider Grace Moraa, a widow who supports her four children through her 8-acre sugarcane farm. Through our women's empowerment program, she received training in farm management, access to credit, and a seat on our Farmer Advisory Committee.
Our outgrower program provides farmers with: - Certified high-yielding sugarcane varieties - Subsidized fertilizers and pesticides - Free agronomic advice from our field officers - Guaranteed purchase agreements with fair pricing - Access to mechanized harvesting services
We believe that the success of our farmers is the success of Angata Sugar Mills. That is why we invest heavily in their training, welfare, and livelihoods — because when they thrive, we all thrive.
